With the elimination of the base L trim, the Highlander is free to focus on its mid-sized objective. Regrettably, that concludes our coverage for 2027. Although we have never experienced its wild side, this family-friendly SUV continues to provide a reliable ride and decent handling. The inside is tastefully decorated with an emphasis on functional, reasonable utility elements, as before. With the availability of second-row captain’s chairs on the XLE and higher trim levels, the number of passenger seating is reduced to seven, even though the base LE model (remember that the L is deleted for 2027) has eight. When it comes to passenger room, the Chevrolet Traverse is still the best, even though it’s on par with or slightly more spacious than the CX-90. There is almost six inches extra legroom in the third row of the Traverse compared to the Highlander.

Similarly, the Highlander’s cargo space can only hold four carry-on bags, whereas the Traverse’s can hold six. Superior interior materials and an uncomplicated yet functional design distinguish this generation of Highlanders. While the XLE and Limited come standard with 12.3-inch systems, the LE and XLE make do with 8.0-inch infotainment screens, while the basic models in the lineup feature analog instruments with a tiny 7-inch information screen. The Platinum trim level adds a 12.3-inch touchscreen cluster for your digital gauges. Although an 11-speaker JBL system is available as an option on the XSE, Limited, and Platinum models, the audio system is standard on all three trim levels and has six speakers.

Every model comes with a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot, SiriusXM satellite radio, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and Amazon Alexa compatibility as standard features. A built-in wireless charging station is standard on all XLE versions and higher. Engine and Performance

In the 2027 Highlander, buyers have the option of a hybrid powertrain or a standard gas engine. With its 265 horsepower turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine and eight-speed automatic gearbox, the gas-powered vehicle offers both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive as options. With this setup, our drivers could accelerate an all-wheel drive version to 60 mph in just 7.2 seconds. The Highlander Hybrid’s 243 horsepower are the result of its 2.5-liter inline-four engine and two electric motors. The hybrid’s continuously variable transmission (CVT) allows you to choose between front- or all-wheel drive.

The gas-powered vehicle is far more fuel-efficient, yet it lags behind the hybrid in the 0-60 mph race by a mere 0.01% of a second. Both models are great choices for family chauffeur duty because to their dependable handling and comfortable ride. Many other hybrid SUVs and crossovers have recently entered the market, giving the Highlander Hybrid a run for its money. These include the Ford Explorer, Hyundai Santa Fe, Mazda CX-90 PHEV, Kia Sorento, and countless more. The Highlander Hybrid’s increased fuel efficiency provides 36 city, 35 highway, and 36 combined mpg; all-wheel drive versions receive 1 mpg less in both the city and combined categories.
